BMW 6 Series

The BMW 6-series ups the ante in ride quality and performance, especially with the M6.  This series is comprised of a two-door coupe and convertible with retractable soft top, both wrapped up in sleek, sporty lines and handsome interiors.

Models in the BMW 6-series operate on a 6-, 8-, or awesome 10-cylinder engine and 6-speed sport automatic or 6-speed manual transmission (7-speed manual in the M6).  BMW lists acceleration times at a staggering 4.6 seconds 0-62 in the M6 coupe to an impressive 6.7 seconds 0-62 in the 630i convertible with top speeds of 155 mph across the board.

Fuel economy is decent and environmental impact is acceptable for this series.  All vehicles are constructed with lightweight materials and employ brake energy regeneration, both of which improve fuel economy.  Fuel mileage at approximately 24mpg in the 650i Sport to 36mpg in the 630i coupe is respectable, and 19mpg for the M6 isn‘t too shoddy.  CO2 emissions in the M6 of 342g/km is balanced by the coupe’s CO2 emissions of 188g/km.

If the 6-series has a downside, it parallels the 1- and 3-series in lack of interior space.  The 6-series is considered a two-plus-two and the connotation is perfectly fitting.  The driver and front-seat passenger are provided with sufficient seating space while rear-seat passengers will likely find it cramped at best or more suited to child passengers.  Interior storage space is average and in spite of the small rear seat, boot capacity is acceptable for the class.  Electronic gadgets pepper BMW’s 6-series’ interiors, which will be a good or bad thing depending on the driver.

Slight tyre and wind noise may be experienced from all models in this series, but it’s muted enough to be agreeable.  Minor engine rumbling may be audible in the cabin during acceleration but chances are that most drivers of the 6-series cars will welcome the silky purr.

Standard safety features for the BMW 6-series include enhanced head protection system, side impact protection, hill start assistance, ABS, and crash-sensor activations, to name a few.  A first-aid kit and warning triangle are staples of BMW safety and are included in all new vehicles.
